Dismantling the old exhaust manifolds
You have to spray and penetrate the bolts of your old, heavy and rusty exhaust manifolds weeks before you start replacing them, if you do this every few days you will see that they come easily loose, the exhaust manifolds will stick on your heads but when you hit them carefully with a hammer they will come loose. above

Headers
I choose the 4-2-1 system (TRI-Y) of Doug Thorley Headers because these are especially developed for more torque in the low RPM range (so especially for towing and off road), in combination with a double exhaust system with a balancer, whicht takes care for more back pressure, this results in a very nice, deep, dark and warm sound and lots of torque. Partnumber: Summit: DTE-114Y.

Before I started I read some forums, I knew that with some other brands that sell headers that it was necessary to cut on the frame, with the headers of Doug Thorley it is not necessary to cut anything, however it is necessary that you mount your (new) starter to your engine before you mount the new Thorley headers (an other option is to leave your headers loose). For more information about how to install the headers see: Doug Thorley Headers

Double exhaust system
Years ago EPS (this is only interesting for Dutch viewers) made this double stainless steel exhaust system with balancer for me, comparatively with a new stock exhaust system this a rather cheap way to give your truck more horsepower, so you do not have to worry for your exhaust system for almost a life-time (only to keep them shiny), when I wanted to submit new headers I had to made a new connection from the exhaust system to the new Doug Thorley headers geïnstalleerd, I cut away the pipes of the old exhaust system for about 25 inches, now I could mount the exhaust system to the body and I mounted the headers, now I could see how to connect them to each other, I used some PVC bends and pipes with the same size of my exhaust pipes, with some cutting and heating the PVC I could exactly make a new connection, you can use ducktape or glue to finish the model, with a marker you can mark every part of your model and you can mark the right position to your exhaust system and the collectors of your headers, now carefully remove the left and the right model of your system and let your models be copied for real by a company who can bend exhaust pipes with special tools, take care of the size of your models comparing of the size of the collectors and your old exhaust pipes, it has to fit as close as possible, if your new bends are ready you can place them between the headers and your old system, now take your MIG welder and weld them with a few spots to each other, but so that it is strong enough to disamble the complete system without breaking, you have to make the complete system in a way so that you can disamble it from your truck without remove any other parts except your rear drive shaft, make sure that there is enough space for moving parts and that the exhaust system will not touch your frame, fluid lines or wiring etc. above
