Dodge Power Wagon Dodge W200 Third Brake Light

Very cool is the Universal Third Brake Light, LED, Line of Fire 49 inch of Altec Products bought by Summit (APR-513).

When you look at the pics of Summit you can see that normally this third brake light is mounted below your tailgate, I however have mounted it above my sliding rear window (see picture on the right), because it is quite flexible you can let it run along the shape of your roof/rear window, it just fits and is 49 inch long, you can connect it with the brake pedal switch, which is just above your brake pedal, if you take some time to examine this you will easily find this switch, laying on your back and by pushing in the brake pedal by hand you can see how the switch works, now with a universal meter you can determine which wire makes contact if you push on the brake pedal, interrupt this wire carefully and make a connector to this wire, then use a thin wire that leads to your third brake light, why thin? because your wire has to move freely when you press on your brake pedal, so let the wire freely hang in a curve then adjust with a tie rip, use only 2 of the 3 positive wires that are connected to your third brake light, only for braking, to let them flash for the turning or warning lights is in our country not allowed, so if you are living in the USA it will be ok to use the third wire, if you are living outside the USA you have to search what the rules are in your country, connect the negative wire to your cabin (inside), the package of the third brake light includes a installation instruction, if there are still people behind you, they will have a very impressive view, if you are not braking it is hardly to see. above

Dodge W200 Sliding Rear Window
On several forums it is described how a good investment a Sliding Rear Window is for your Dodge Power Wagon M880 Truck (this is not standard on an M880 truck), afterwards I regretted the fact that I had not done this years before, I really enjoy driving my Dodge Power Wagon M880 W200 when the Sliding Rear Window is open, you can even let it open when it rains.

Tip:
A new weather strip is a good investment, you will have to use a special grease to mount it and with a piece of cord (a thin, tough, electrical wire will be the best way) you will pull the window in the right place, of course you have removed and grind all the rust and protected for eternal. above

Dodge W200 Outsite Mirrors
The three-point outside mirrors still looked very good, so just grinding and protecting, the only thing I did was replacing the old parkers by stainless steel bolts, this is much stronger, therefore you will have to remove the trimpanels of  your front doors (it is easier when you have a help to assist you, one person keeps the bold in place and the other places the washer and the nut and fastens them). above

Dodge W200 Spare Tire: how to carry a spare about this size without loosing it!!!!
The tire is more than three feet high!! if I wanted to be able to carry some tools, equipment and building materials to work I had to think of a solution for that, the result is satisfying, the tire is mounted pretty high, but I am still able to see the edges of the pickup bed and I can put enough materials underneath the construction, it is quite simple to remove when I need to and from the outside it looks quite impressive. above

Dodge W200 M880 Seat Belts
At the periodical inspection it was obvious that the seat belts were worn, in our country (The Netherlands) you will have to carry seat belts all the time and they have to be in a perfect condition, so any crack is enough for the inspector to disapprove them, so then you will have to replace them and go back to the garage to do a  re-inspection, I bought 2 universal seatbelts and 1 lapbelt for in the middle of the bench, it was quite a simple job to replace the old belts for the new ones, the holes where you mount the seat belts were big enough and on the right place, I even could use the old bolts to mount the new seat belts, the new belts feel great. above

Dodge W200 Propane Equipment (an other kind of fuel)
It is very common in our country (The Netherlands) to drive on propane, so next to the fuel tank we have one or two propane tanks which could be mounted in the pickup bed or in the place were the spare tire is mostly mounted, besides that you need a special converter to lead the propane to the distributor, above the distributor there comes a special air filter, on top of the air filter the propane comes in and a special spacer makes a mix of propane and air that makes that your engine can drive on this gas (fuel), it is a quite complicated system because you can still drive on fuel, therefore you have a switch in the cabin to choose for whether you use fuel or gas (propane), to describe the whole system is not important for this issue is just to explain you about the use of propane, interesting enough that most American cars drive with propane in our country because of the lower price and that is 65% less than the price of fuel, so now you know why we drive on an other fuel, why drive then also on fuel? because when we go on a holiday (wherever in Europe) they do not sell gas (propane) everywhere. above

Dodge W200 M880 Electrical Winch (also watch Front Bumper Extension)
Because a winch from the USA is cheaper and I though it was time to buy one, I ordered one at Summit, especially when someone had to pull me out of a deep mud pool at Valkenswaard (The Netherlands) during an event, when you buy it at your local store in The Netherlands (in our situation) the price is four times higher,  the installation instruction and the wiring diagram were very clear, I had to search a place where I could mount the electrical unit, where you put the electrical remote control in, I mounted it on the frontend just below the windshield washer reservoir, the reason therfor was that the heavy wires of the winch are a little bit too short, if you place it on this position it is just enough to connect the wires to the winch, so mount it as much as possible to your radiator protection shroud, now when we are on holidays we do not have to wait for a French farmer with a tractor to pull us out!!!!! above

Dodge W200 M880 Rear End Protection (in some case to protect your Propane Tanks)
Because of the extreme lift our Propane Tanks were too much in sight, and this was not a nice view from behind, also they were not protected when I would be involved in an accident, I let my creativity take a flow, I wanted a construction that nobody had made before, with metal U-profile, lots of laths (which you later on copy into square steel profile) and some clamps I tried a few things, finally it became the shape of a fan what looks "awesome" from behind (see picture), while you are busy you can oversize the mounting holes of your rear bumper up to 5/8" and put some 5/8" bolts with the right grade (USA grade 5 or 8.8 for Europe). above

To extend the Front Bumper for mounting a Winch on your Dodge Power Wagon
I wanted to buy a winch to mount on my front bumper, I ordered this at Summit, I wanted to keep the original shape and model, so I had to design something that:

Because I am always using models in my work (I am a constructor, specialized in restoration of 17th century buildings in the heart of Amsterdam), I started to saw two pieces of ply wood, from about 10" by 16" about 3.5" thick (25cm by 40cm and 9 mm thick), then you copy the 3 original holes of your old front bumper to that plywood, about a feet to the front, if you have a bodylift of 3" then the 3 holes should be drilled 3" higher in your pieces of plywood, measure this exactly and then mount it to the frame, then you can lay a piece of plywood above these two lenghtened brackets of about 1 feet by 7 feet (ca 30 by 200 cm) to give you an idea how high the winch should come and how far from the grille, put your new winch on that piece of plywood and move the winch so that you can still remove your grille, also you can determine the hight of your new winch, you can use blocks or small pieces of plywood to raise your winch, if you are convinced of the right place of your winch you can measure again the right place of your front bumper, first measure if the 3 holes you have already drilled are correct, maybe you have to drill 3 new holes backwards or forwards according to the place of your winch, when you know this exactly, drill this holes again, also copy the shape of your front bumper to the big piece of plywood, then cut the pieces of plywood you do not need anymore out, now you can mount your front bumper to that 2 pieces of plywood and now you have a rather complete view of your final model.

With the front bumper mounted you should be aware that the horizontal piece of plywood fits and is sunk for about a half inch into your frontbumper, so a little bit lower, so that your front bumper curves around the big piece of plywood, check again if the winch is at the right hight, later on you can copy the large piece of plywood of a piece of aluminum with diamond tread, to support the aluminum plate you can use square metal profiles, if you know the square size of them you can cut them out in your two pieces of plywood (the extended frame models)

Now you can copy this two pieces of plywood to two pieces of heavy U-shaped metal profile for example 2/5 inch by 1 feet (6 cm at 25 cm), it is impossible to describe this in one sentence, but let your lead by your own ideas and don not hesitate to email us for further questions and support, maybe I should make a technical drawing of this concept once.

Tip:
- With all this weight of this construction, it is better to oversize all the drilled holes to 5/8 inch(16mm), also the original holes of the front bumper mounting, use the right grade of bolts. above
